PESHAWAR, April 22: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah inaugurated the refurbished rake of Awami Express at a simple but impressive ceremony at Peshawar Cantt Railway Station on Monday.
Provincial minister Mohsin Aziz Khan and Inspector General of Police Muhammad Saeed Khan were present.
The governor inspected the coaches and praised the quality of work. The refurbished rake consists of air-conditioned lower- and economy-class coaches in addition to power van, which has also been attached to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity for efficient working of air-conditioning system, fans and lights.
On this occasion, he was informed that the entire rake was refurbished at the Pakistan Railways carriage factory, Islamabad, where, under a phased programme, trains like Khyber Mail, Chenab Express, Karachi Express, Shalimar, Railcars, Quetta Express, etc, have so far been refurbished with a view to providing better facilities to the travelling public.
Later, the governor unveiled the plaque to commemorate placement of a steam locomotive at the railway station as a part of the Centennial Celebrations of the NWFP.
