HYDERABAD, April 22: The jewellers observed a strike here on Monday to protest against the murder of a jeweller, Mohammad Saleem Memon, by some bandits.
The jewellers closed their shops in the Sarafa Bazaar, Shahi Bazaar, Resham Bazaar, Jamia Cloth Market, unit no 8 and 11 of Latifabad, Phuleli Bazaar, Tayyab Complex, Saddar Bazaar, Sunar Gali and other areas.
The executive committee of Hyderabad Sarafa and Jewellers Group at a meeting condemned the murder of the jeweller and held Quran Khawani and offered Fateha.
The meeting demanded the immediate arrest of the murderers and punishment to them.
The meeting warned that if the culprits were not arrested within one week, protest demonstrations would be held throughout the province.
It may be mentioned here that Mohammad Saleem, who was the owner of the Data Jewellers and Sakhi Abdul Wahab Jewellers, was killed by armed bandits near Shaikh Rehan goth, Husri, on Sunday.
He was reportedly kidnapped by the bandits and later on shot dead. The dacoits had taken away money and other articles, which he was carrying.
His body was recovered by the police at the pointation of some villagers.
CAUTIONED: Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz spokesman Dr Zulfiqar Ali Panhwar has cautioned the people against some unscrupulous people who were collecting Bhatta and donations on the pretext of making arrangements for the death anniversary of G.M. Syed.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Dr Panhwar said that the JSQM had nothing to do with such elements and advised the people to hand over them to the police.
He alleged that Hanif Malik, Ramzan Kalwar and Liaquat Leghari in Ghotki district and Maqsood Shah and Ashfaq Kazi in Hyderabad were extorting money from the people.
He demanded of the authorities to arrest these extortionists.
JSMM: The workers of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz, who are going on foot to participate in the seventh death anniversary of G.M. Syed, the founder of the Jeay Sindh Movement, scheduled to be held at Sannh on April 25, arrived from Tando Mohammad Khan on Monday noon.
They staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Bashir Shah, senior vice chairman, and Sanaullah Bhatti said that G.M. Syed had given a modern philosophy of nationalism to the people of Sindh.
