HYDERABAD, April 22: The “International Car-Free Day”, organized by the Centre of Environmental Sciences, University of Sindh, was observed at the Allama I. I. Kazi Campus, Jamshoro, on Monday.

All vehicles of the faculty members and students’ point buses were stopped at the entry points of the university.

A walk on the theme of the day, led by the vice chancellor of the university, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, proceeded from Allama I. I. Kazi Road to Zero Point of the Faculty of Arts.

Deans of various faculties, heads and members of different departments and institutes, students and people from all walks of life participated in the walk.

The VC urged the participants to create awareness among the people about the advantages of pollution-free atmosphere. He also called upon the people to realize their responsibilities towards environment.

He remarked that the main objective to observe the day was to prove that “we all are against pollution and we want to preserve the beauty of earth.”

The director of the Centre of Environmental Sciences, Dr Muhammad Yar Khuhawar, Dr Imdadullah Siddiqui and others also highlighted the importance of the day.

SYNDICATE MEETING: The syndicate of the University of Sindh, at its 124th meeting held here the other day, approved the setting up of “S. A. Hasnie Memorial Chair of Economics” in the Department of Economics on the proposal of the State Bank of Pakistan with a view to improving the quality of instructions in the subject of economics.

The vice chancellor of the university presided over the meeting, which was attended by Prof Mariam Sultana Noohani, Dr Shamim Ahmed, Ghulam Muhammad Soomro, Dr Iqbal Panhwar, Prof Ferozuddin Kazi, Prof Asif Ali Kazi, Prof Maqsood Ahmed, a nominee of education secretary, and other members of the syndicate.

MUET: The authorities of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, have announced that the regular/supplementary examinations of B.Tech (Pass Hons.) of the second year, first and second semesters, Government College of Technology, Hyderabad and Khairpur, which were scheduled to begin on April 23, have been postponed and would begin on May 4 on account of duties/ training of officials to be engaged in the presidential referendum.
