DADU, April 21: Naing Sharif police, at the behest of Lasmo officials, have raided the houses of Mari tribesmen in the area and arrested ten persons.
This was said by two cousins of Fazal Marri, who was recently killed at Lasmo’s Bhit Jabal camp during a clash between police and protesters.
Those arrested were Yaqoob Marri, Sher Mohammad, Bilawal, Sheroo, Motio, Jumo, Laloo, Bhooro, Ghulam Nabi and Bachoo Mari.
Talking to newsmen at the press club here on Saturday, Mohammad Hayat Mari and Achar Marri alleged that the police was torturing the arrested men to pressurize them withdraw the cases registered against the police and Lasmo officials.
On the other hand, the police had not arrested the accused of Fazal’s murder who included two policemen, they deplored.
They said that the Lasmo management had established camp and wells of gas and oil at 900 acres of land belonging to them in Bhit Jabal area and had not paid them a single penny as compensation.
They alleged that the Lasmo officials were paying huge money to the influential landlords on monthly basis.
They said that the Mari tribesmen, who were working for the multinational company and its contractors, had refused to work in the field in protest against the non-payment of the compensation for their lands and killing of Fazal.
They appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf to direct the federal ministry of petroleum and natural resources to ensure justice to the Mari tribesmen.
Eight injured: Eight persons were injured in an armed clash between two groups of Dara community over some matrimonial dispute in Bora Lakhair village, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka, on Saturday.
The injured included Mohammad Ramzan, Abdul Fatah, Anwar Kamal, Kaman, Abbas, Mazan and Nadir. The police have registered an FIR against five persons.
