Tribal chief refuses to accept official jirga

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, April 21: Chief of Sarawan and Raisani tribe, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani has said that official tribal jirga headed by Khan of Kalat constituted by the provincial government for resolving the tribal feuds was not acceptable to him as some members of jirga themselves were involved in tribal conflicts.

Speaking at a press conference at his residence along with his brother Nawabzada Lashkari Khan Raisani, he said that this official jirga was backing the terrorist.

“We cannot accept such Jirga,” Nawab Raisani said adding that government wanted that he and his tribe should back the undemocratic policies of military rulers and join hand with them. However, he said that he believes in democracy and always supported democratic forces in their struggle for the restoration of democracy in the country.

He said that as a member of PPP he was opposing undemocratic presidential referendum. He said that Gen Musharraf was holding referendum as he failed to muster the support of the political parties.

Nawab Raisani said that his own house and houses of his workers and other people of the tribe were bulldozed in Mehir Ghar in the presence of Balochistan Reserve Police and Levies without any justification. Hundreds of people belonging to his tribes were arrested by the local administration just to please his opponents.

Despite these tactics government could not succeeded in getting our support in its undemocratic move. He said that he has informed Governor Corps Commander and other concerned authorities about the terrorist activities being committed against him and his tribesmen.

Nawab Raisani while condemning the bulldozing of houses in Mehir Ghar demanded that a probe should be conducted under the supervision of Supreme Court of Pakistan and Human rights commission of Pakistan.
