HYDERABAD, April 18: The executive committee, PPP, Hyderabad, at a meeting held on Thursday has condemned the announcement for holding the referendum and resolved to launch a door-to-door campaign against the referendum.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Pervez Ahmed Ansari.
It observed that the presidential referendum was illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional.
It said that the people would observe curfew on April 30.
It condemned the use of “indecent language” against PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto and continued detention of Asif Ali Zardari and other PPP leaders.
Those who attended the meeting included Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Zaheeruddin Ghumman, Syed Saleem Shah, Ghulam Rasool Kalhoro, Fayaz Ali Shah, Amanullah Siyal, and Saleem Baloch.
MALIK COMMUNITY: The leaders of “Malik Bradari”, which claims to have a community of 20 million people in Pakistan and five million in Sindh alone, have announced their unflinching support for President Pervez Musharraf in the presidential referendum.
They claimed that the entire Malik Bradari would vote for President Musharraf in the presidential referendum scheduled to be held on April 30.
Speaking at a news conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday, Malik Abdur Rasheed Chohan, convener “Malik Referendum Himayat Committee”, Malik Haji Shamsuddin, Malik Haji Zafar Ahmed, Malik Haji M. Aslam, Malik M. Arshad and a large number of others claimed that no less than 4,000 Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors had been elected throughout Pakistan in the local bodies elections and all of them would vote for Gen Musharraf in the referendum along with their supporters.
They said in Hyderabad District no less than 19 Maliks had been elected as councillors including women and labour councillors.
They said that the opinion of Malik Bradari had been sought throughout the province and it had been unanimously decided to announce support for President Musharraf.
They claimed that on April 25 the Malik Bradari would bring out a huge rally in the city and participate in the public meeting on April 26.
They said that after the election of Gen Musharraf as president, a function would be held in his honour in Hyderabad in which tens of thousands of Maliks throughout Pakistan would participate.
DIABLED: At least 40 handicapped people including women staged a rally on wheelchairs under the banner of the Special Peoples Foundation on Thursday in support of Gen Musharraf.
Addressing the rally, the head of the Special Peoples Foundation, M. Rafique Rajput said that the handicapped people of Hyderabad supported President Musharraf’s decision to hold the presidential referendum, and added that all of them would cast their votes in favour of President Musharraf.
