Pistol Pete atones for last defeat
LAHORE, April 17: Horse-racing lacked competition during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse Wednesday.
After last minute withdrawals in each race, the fields were reduced to six or seven runners except in the feature and last event which had nine runners.
The attendance too was thin due to uninteresting card laid out for the afternoon.
The programme started with chestnut gelding Adil Prince partnered by riding boy A. Aziz winning the opener defeating fancied bay gelding Sugar Dady, whom he beat by one-and-a- quarter length in a field of only six runners.
In the next event dark-bay colt Jehandar defeated fancied bay gelding Last Love by three and three-quarters lengths. Again there were only six runners.
The third race turned out to be a one-horse affair in which the roan gelding Subzero won by a street’s margin. He beat Hot Press by nine lengths.
Fancied chestnut gelding Pistol Pete made amends for his defeat last time out by winning the fourth race. Pistol Pete beat Den See by five and-a-half lengths in a handy position.
The odds-on favourite bay gelding Thank You Boss gave riding boy Shahid Mustafa an easy sailing in the supporting and fifth event. He beat Russian Pet by about three lengths. In all only six ran for the event.
Long shot bay mare Iram State stormed home in the sixth and feature event to win by five lengths from the bay Rukhsh in a field of nine disinterested runners. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of six furlongs.
The riding boys A. Aziz and Qamar Zaman shared the day’s riding honours by bringing in a brace of winners each. A. Aziz piloted Adil Prince and Subzero while Qamar Zaman rode Pistol Pete and Iram State.
