Industrial units in Thar demanded

MITHI, April 17: Responding to motions moved by some of the members, the district council passed a number of resolutions at its session held here on Tuesday.

It demanded the authorities concerned to establish industrial units in Thar for cutting and polishing granite and processing China clay for economic upliftment of the district, establish a radio station near Mithi, provide staff to higher secondary schools of Chhachhro and Nagarparkar, grant arms licences to the residents of bordering villages for their protection, and provide canal water to the residents of Chhachhro.

Tabling a motion at the council’s session, a member, Harish Kumar Lohano, said that Thar had plenty of natural resources including granite and China clay which were taken to Karachi and other cities for processing.

He said that since the Tharis were not getting any economic benefit from these valued assets, therefore the factories be set up in Thar for processing minerals so as to provide jobs to the locals.

He demanded a bus terminal in Islamkot, a bypass road and the setting up of a park.—Correspondent
