Russian team meets president

ISLAMABAD, April 16: A Russian parliamentary delegation on Tuesday praised President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s efforts and plans to bring stability and improve Pakistan’s image as a forward-looking state.

The delegation, headed by chairman of standing committee on foreign relations of the State Duma, Dimitriy Rogozin, called on the president and conveyed a message of goodwill on behalf of President Putin. The president reciprocated the sentiments.

The president and the Russian delegation exchanged views on regional security, Afghanistan, Pakistan-India relations, anti-terrorism campaign and prospects for cooperation in various fields.

The president informed the parliamentarians about the reforms agenda being implemented by the government for political and economic stability.

Gen Musharraf emphasized the need to develop bilateral relations and expressed the hope of an early meeting with the Russian president.—APP
