SAHIWAL, April 16: Residents of Bihari Colony caught on Monday night 11 of the 25 thieves who removed three transformers and wire electrifying six villages and their area.
According to details, a gang of 25 thieves removed three transformers and wire electrifying Bihari Colony, Chak Nos 87/6-R, 86/6-R, 104/9-L, 100/9-L, 95/6R and 60-61/GD, transformers. As a result, Bihari Colony and six villages plunged into darkness.
The residents of Bihari Colony chased the thieves and caught Tariq, Khalid, Sharif and their eight accomplices, besides the body of a thief, identified as Riaz Ahmad. The remaining thieves took away the wire and transformers, worth over Rs1 million, in a truck. They were handed over to the police.
Later, thieves told police that a retired line superintendent and former linemen of Wapda constitute the gang.
Seven cases of electricity wire theft have been registered by the Noorshah, Sahiwal city, Farid Town, Dera Rahim and Kamir police stations with no recovery.
Wapda officials have asked the residents of the affected areas to deposit the part payments or cost of the stolen Wapda wire and the transformers.
LOOTED: Robbers looted an industrialist on GT Road on Monday night.
A cotton factory owner, Maqbool Elahi Sheikh, was coming to Sahiwal from Multan with his uncle Ehsanullah and driver Manzoor when the robbers intercepted their car (MNW 711) near Chak No 115/12-L.
The robbers snatched Rs314,000 from them and took away the car, worth more than Rs1 million.
Kassowal police registered the case with no recovery or arrest.
In another incident, dacoits injured the brother of a farmer on resistance in Chak No 161/9-L on Tuesday.
Four dacoits entered the house of Nasrullah and started collecting valuables. They stabbed and injured Zafarullah when he resisted, decamped with Rs108,000 and other valuables.
Ghaziabad police registered the case.
ROAD ACCIDENT: Two people were killed and 20 others were injured when a bus overturned on Chichawatni-Faisalabad Road on Tuesday.
The driver of the Haroonabad-bound bus (FDD 2155) lost control over the steering because of over speeding and it overturned near Chak No 114/7-R. As a result, Krishan Lal Chand and another unidentified man died on the spot while 20 others were injured.
The condition of Farzand, Allah Ditta, Mariyam, Rehana, Farzana, Ghulam Hussain and four children was stated to be critical in the DHQ hospital.
Police registered a case against the bus driver who escaped from the scene.

ASI Nazir Ahmad received Rs35,000 from Ibrar Hussain of Chak No 18/14-L for the recovery of his stolen valuables.
Patwari Mushtaq Ahmad received Rs8,000 from Muhammad Iqbal but did not transfer agricultural land in his name.
Cases were registered after separate inquiries established the charges.
