KARACHI, April 16: Sindh Health Minister Ahsan Ahmed visited 18 towns of the city to review the ongoing three-day polio eradication campaign, on Tuesday.

About 8.4 million children will be given anti-polio drops, besides administration of vitamin A drops to children from six months to 5 years of age.

Ahsan Ahmed was accompanied by EDO (health) Dr Ali Nawaz Shaikh, Dr Ghulam Nabi Qazi and Dr Munawwar Qureshi of the World Health Organization.

He visited the town health offices, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Dhani Bux Goth, Bakhtawar Goth, Gulistan-i-Jauhar and North Nazimabad, Block D and inquired from the parents whether their children had been administered anti-polio drops.

Dr Ghulam Nabi Qazi of the WHO identified the defects in chalking system and advised improvement in it.

He also asked the health officials to prepare a list of families in the posh areas, who had refused to cooperate with the town health departments’ staff.

When pointed out by North Nazimabad town health officer that the figures provided by the WHO and the Gallop Survey were different, the health minister said the WHO figures were correct.

He appealed to parents to get their children administered anti-polio drops every year.—PPI
