SAHIWAL, April 15: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal will contest the general elections irrespective of the fact that these are held on party or non-party basis.
This was stated by JUIP(F) central Naib Amir Maulana Sayyed Amir Husain Gilani during an oath-taking ceremony of his party’s office-bearers here on Monday.
He alleged the government had already prepared the results of the referendum.
He said the committee had yet to launch a protest for the release of its workers and leaders, adding the decision would be taken in the next meeting.
Condemning the police baton charge on journalists in Faisalabad, he said the step reflected a misuse of might.
Later, he took oath from Patron Maulana Abdul Majid Taunsvi, Amir Muhammad Ajmal Naqvi, Naib Amir Ziaul Haq, Secretary-General Bashir Wasim and others.
Three killed: Three people were killed and as many received injuries in two traffic accidents here on Monday.
A speeding car (Karachi-QW-9505) overturned on the GT Road near Chak 118. Ahmed Raza and his sister Zubaida died instantly while three other car occupants sustained serious wounds.
A cyclist, Muhammad Nadeem, was run over by a speeding bus (LH-4415) near Yadgar. He died on the spot.
Police have registered cases.
KIDNAP CASE: A girl whose kidnap case was registered on the orders of the Punjab governor against a prayer leader and his wife appeared on Sunday at the local Grain Market police station.
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Reema (12) said she had gone to Ghousia Chowk Mosque on Feb 16 from where a woman, Akbari Begum, took her to her house. After taking a cup of tea, she became unconscious, she said. On regaining her senses, she found herself locked in a room at a village of Qari Muhammad Ahmed Hashmi of Mailsi. She said a young man had often come there and raped her while three women stood guard outside. The women thrashed her on resistance. She somehow managed to escape and reached her house on Sunday.
