LARKANA, April 15: Aijaz Ali Bozdar, the brother of under-trial prisoner Sajjad Ali Bozdar, who was allegedly tortured in Larkana central prison, filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench, on Monday.
He prayed the court to direct the SHO of Waleed police station to register FIR against the jail superintendent, six policemen and an under-trial prisoner.
Advocate Azizul Haq Solangi, who represented the petitioner, invoking article 199 of the 1973 constitution, said that the petitioner’s brother, Sajjad Bozdar, who was facing trials in sessions court, was not produced in the court on two consecutive hearings.
On April 9 and 10, the jail mates of his brother informed that he (Sajjad Bozdar) was severely tortured. Later, his brother was referred to the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
The petitioner alleged that on the insistence of Ali Hassan Bozdar, a UTP, the jail superintendent and police constables Nadir Abro, Qurban Shahani, Ammanullah Mashori, Mumtaz Bhatti, Wazeer Chandio and Imam Bakhsh Golo tied his (Sajjad’s) hands and legs and beaten him with leather belts and lathis, damaging his spinal cord and lower limbs.
The petitioner said he went to the Waleed police station to lodge an FIR, but the ASI on duty insulted him and said that no FIR against government officer could be registered.
The petitioner prayed that judicial inquiry should be conducted to probe into the matter.
Justice Wahid Bakhsh Brohi heard the petition and ordered to issue notice to the SHO, Waleed police station.
