KHAIRPUR, April 15: Former governor Sindh and acting president, Sindh, PML (N) Mamnoon Hussain said that since the Thal Canal project would cause economic devastation to Sindh, therefore, the PML (N) rejects it.
He was talking to a group of journalists after a meeting of PML(N) activists on Sunday.
He said that the people of Sindh were honourable enough to uphold the principles of democracy and felt pride in being anti-dictators.
He opined that by participating in the LB elections political parties had committed a blunder and got their men elected as Nazims and councillors and today these Nazims had turned out to be workers of President Pervez Musharraf’s referendum.
He regretted that some opportunists got benefits and posts during the Nawaz government, but later defected and joined hands with Gen Musharraf. He said that however common workers were still with Nawaz Sharif.
He said that Nawaz Sharif would certainly return to Pakistan and would play a vital role in politics.
He said that it would not be people but “ghosts” that would caste votes in the referendum.
Earlier, he offered condolence to Ghulam Haider Phulpoto on his father’s death and also held a meeting with local PML (N) workers.
Talking to a representative delegation of the PML youth wing, he said that time had proved the correctness of the PML(N)’s decision for not taking part in the LB elections as those who participated in it and got elected were repenting over their decision.
