LAHORE, April 14: The long shot bay mare Perfect Timing put up a much improved performance and won the feature event of the Lahore Winter Meeting run over seven furlongs at the Racecourse Sunday.

With Nazir Ahmad astride, Perfect Timing resisted the late challenge of on-rushing roan gelding Millennium Count and beat him by one-and-a-half lengths. Think tank came in third.

Perfect Timing clocked one minute 26 1/5 seconds over the distance. She is trained by Abdur Rahim.

A race earlier, the grey gelding Martial Law stormed home to win the supporting event beating Better Case in the race run over seven furlongs with chestnut filly Flame finishing third.

Martial law’s victory can be attributed to jockey Shahid Rehman, who rode the gelding superbly. Shahid had earlier brought in a brace of winners winning the second race on Value Of Life and on Golden Road in the third race.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) took serious action against some faltering riders during Sunday’s races. Jockey Shehzad Iqbal was warned off the track for two months for mishandling Credit Queen. Salah-ud-Din (II) was also barred for two months for his unsatisfactory riding on the fancied mare Arooj. The LRC claims that such vigilance will improve the standard of racing in Lahore.
