Public sector to be allowed to employ skilled youths

ISLAMABAD, April 13: The government has decided to allow the public sector, including banks and development financial institutions (DFIs), to provide jobs to skilled and educated youths of the country.

A high-level meeting, held here on April 1 (Monday) and presided over by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, decided that fresh blood would be inducted into government organizations, while restructuring/rightsizing in the departments continued.

The Establishment Division was directed to issue necessary guidelines to all ministries/divisions and the provincial governments by April 12 to start training programmes on April 15 for intake of trainers/ internees/ apprentices in technical and specialised disciplines, including finance, management, research & development and banking.

The meeting agreed on the following parameters of the training programme:

The aim of the programme will be to provide an opportunity for on-the-job training/internship to qualified youths, besides sharpening their skills for possible future employment.

Such an engagement will be purely temporary and on contractual basis and for such a period as the organization concerned may need.

After the completion of training/internship, the organization concerned shall be free to offer regular appointment or to terminate the contact.
