MAIDAN SHAHR, April 13: Nine people were killed in fighting between the forces of two rival commanders in Afghanistan’s Wardak province on Friday night and Saturday amid conflicting accounts of what started it.
The clashes took place between the forces of interim government commander Muzaffaruddin and Ghulam Rohani Nangali near Maidan Shahr, the capital of Wardak province, 45kms west of Kabul. Local people said both sides used mortars, heavy machineguns and artillery in fighting.—Reuters
