RAWALPINDI, April 11: The Millat Party on Thursday supported the government’s decision to exclude those elements from politics who had looted the country and deceived masses.

The party secretary-general, Mohammad Ali Durrani, speaking at a media conference, said all religious and patriotic parties should join hands to make presidential referendum a success.

When asked whether the use of state machinery for the referendum campaign was constitutional and democratic, he said he was not aware that the government machinery had been mobilized for the purpose.

In response to a question, he said the referendum was necessary to ensure President Gen Pervez Musharraf’s stay in office to continue reforms he had brought about in various sectors. It will also pave the way for restoration of democracy and help end the politics of loot and plunder.

To a question, Mr Durrani said the role of the National Security Council should only be advisory.
