SUKKUR, April 10: A large number of teachers, lecturers and professors, under the banner of Sindh Employees Alliance, staged a sit-in at the Sukkur bypass and blocked the highway for one hour to press for the acceptance of their demands.
The alliance leaders, including Intizar Hussain Shalgari, and Liaqat Ali Solangi, while talking to the gathering, warned that if their demands were not accepted by the government, they would boycott the ensuing presidential referendum and would not attend their duties.
The SEA is protesting against the education department officials, who, according to them, sacked five office-bearers of the alliance, without giving any show-cause notice or reason.
The speakers said that they had met with the education secretary at Karachi and had apprised him of the grievances.
The SEA leaders said that the education secretary told them that he did not know as to who had sacked these employees and added that the district government might be behind the termination of these employees.
They said that when they contacted the Nazim of the district government, he was also unaware about the sacking of the employees.
The SEA leaders said that they were protesting against the officials of the education department for the last 15 days in Sukkur but no one was ready to listen to their grievances.
They warned that they would stage Gherao of the office of the education secretary on April 25.
