800 women, kids expelled

TEL AVIV, April 10: The Israeli army expelled some 800 women and children from the Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday while conducting sweeps in the northern West Bank region, UNICEF officials said.

The relief organization said its aid convoy was stopped by Israeli troops at the southern entrance into Jenin, where 14 Israeli soldiers were killed on Wednesday.

Citing a report from one International Committee for Red Cross worker who was allowed into Jenin, UNICEF said the Israeli army had expelled 800 civilians from the refugee camp on the western edge of Jenin.

The women and children were forced out on the streets of Jenin, where they have no protection, food or clothing, UNICEF said, expressing its “serious concern” over the development.—AFP
