LAHORE, April 9: The six-year-old bay gelding Star Gate, who was beaten in his previous outing, should make amends this time when he appears in the feature event of the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

He is contesting in the sixth and last race, the Sargodha Plate Class VII Division IV & V combined featuring the six event card. Star Gate had finished third behind Royal Prosper and Blu’s Eye, over five furlongs on March 31 last.

In the absence of Royal Prosper and Blu’s Eye, Star Gate should win the race.

The dark-bay mare The Cleopatra, the bay colt Incognito and the chestnut horse Rukhsh, can prove thorns in his way to win top honours.

All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs. The first race is scheduled to be held at 2.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) in a notification issued on Tuesday has directed all horse owners to send their animals on “try out” to improve the standard of racing in Lahore.

It has warned the persons, who are in habit of laying forced obliging bets with the bookmakers, not to do so in future because such tendencies have negative effect on racing and also create problems.

It  further asked the turf accountants to announce  a reasonable cash award for the owners of animals registering an upset victory in races. Lastly the LRC has warned all concerned that if these conditions are not met with horse-racing might be stopped in Lahore.
