ISLAMABAD, April 9: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench Bar Association, through its secretary, has approached the Supreme Court to declare that holding of referendum by President Gen Pervez Musharraf was unconstitutional.
The petitioner has impleaded Gen Pervez Musharraf and the federal government through the secretary law. The petition has been drawn by the President of the Association, Chaudhry Mohammad Ikram.
The petitioner stated that assumption of power as President of Pakistan was unconstitutional and against the law. It was further stated that removal of President Rafiq Tarar was an unconstitutional act.
The association prayed the court to declare that holding of referendum as unconstitutional and void abinitio.
Similar petition was also filed by Qazi Hussain Ahmad but the court has not taken it up, so far.
