Malaysian reserves at $32.7bn

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8: Malaysia’s central bank said on Monday its international reserves stood at $32.7 billion at the end of March, up slightly from $32.6 billion on March 14.

Reserves stood at $27.2 billion on March 31, 2001.

Bank Negara said in a statement the increase of $112 million in reserves during the second half of March reflected continued inflows from export earnings and net inflows of portfolio funds.

The reserves position was adequate to finance 5.5 months of retained imports and was 5.3 times the short term external debt, it added.—Reuters
