Women hold rally against price escalation

QUETTA, April 7: A number of women protesters on Sunday demanded a ban on foreign loans and said that the country could not bear the burden of more loans.

A resolution adopted in a rally arranged by Balochistan Jamaat-e-islami, women wing, strongly criticized the military government’s polices and said it had failed to resolve problems being faced by the poor people.

It was that the loans should be recovered from those people who were responsible for their wrong use.

The resolution demanded that the in the rate of electricity, telephone and water should be withdrawn and the price of petrol should be reduced. It was observed that the government was not taking any steps for controlling the price hike and the prices of all items of daily use, including rice, flour and vegetable oil, were increasing.

The protesters demanded that import of unnecessary items should be banded for encouraging local industry.

The salaries should be increase in accordance with inflation and strong action should be taken against those involved in profiteering, they said.

They criticized the increase in the university fees.

The women gathered at the Quetta Press Club and chanted anti-government slogans.

Jamaat-i-Islami women’s wing leaders addressed the protesters and demanded relief for the poor.
