SUKKUR, April 7: Six persons were killed and seven injured in an armed clash between two groups of Mugheri tribe in Goth Sabzal in Mouladad police station jurisdiction, district Jacobabad, on Sunday night.
Firing between the groups was continuing till the filing of this report.
The names of those killed could not be ascertained immediately but police confirmed the death of four people.
Reports reaching here said that the clash took place over a theft of a cow.
According to police sources, a strong contingent of police rushed to the area to bring the situation under control but the enraged tribesmen opened fire on the police party. However, no one was killed or injured.
Police also resorted to tear gas shelling and aerial firing but the situation remained tense as both the groups were entrenched against each other and they continued firing with intervals.
Those injured we0re identified as Akber Ali, Raham Ali Gaji, Haji Abdul Khaliq, Ali Sher and others.
When this correspondent contacted AIG, Sukkur, Nayyar Husnain, he confirmed the deaths of four persons of the two groups of Mugheri tribe.
According to him the dispute erupted over the theft of a cow which was taken away from the house of a tribesman, Dater Bux Mugheri.
He and others followed the foot-prints which led to Muhammad Sharif Mugheri’s house.
They demanded return of the cow but the other group refused and said that they had not stolen the cow.
The exchange of hot words between the two groups converted into an armed clash and during the shootout six persons of both the groups were killed and seven injured.
Police failed to recover the bodies and were trying to stop the firing.
The AIG said that extra police force was sent to the area and hoped that the situation will come under control in an hour.
