MULTAN, April 7: At least 150,000 children will be immunized every year with the assistance of WHO against infectious diseases, including Hepatitis B.

This was stated by district Nazim Shah Mehmood here on Sunday while speaking at the Health Festival arranged by the Health Development Network.

He said three more maternity homes would be set up in the Multan district due to the high mortality ratio among infants and the pregnant women in the area.

The Punjab governor, he said, had granted Rs60 million for establishing 330-bed institute of cardiology in the former commissioner house, Multan.

Changes in our lifestyle and eating habits had given birth to a number of diseases like diabetes, cancer and cardio-vascular diseases, he said. To avoid such diseases, some time for physical exercises should be spared every day, he said.

The participation of NGOs, community and private sector was imperative in resolving the problems faced by the people, he concluded.

RECOVERED: The local police on Sunday claim to have recovered 202 litres of alcohol from a car and arrested two persons.

Talking to newsmen, Gulgasht SHO said the police had signalled to stop the car (MNS-445) near Bridge Baraan. During a snap checking, police recovered 202 bottles of alcohol from the vehicle and arrested Muhammad Yaqoob and Muhammad Iqbal.—Nouman
