GUJRANWALA, April 7: A joint team of police and Gepco on Sunday caught red-handed 15 people while stealing electricity for agriculture and domestic purposes at Kamoki, Tetley, Wahando and Naushera Virkan.
On a tip-off, the raiding team conducted raids on deras and houses and found them involved in power theft. After removing their meters and other equipments, the raiding team issued to them detection bills.
Police have registered cases against them.
LOOTED: In two strikes, outlaws on Sunday looted the house of an expatriate and also drove away a car in Wazirabad.
Four outlaws burst into the house of Zafar Iqbal in Rahmatpura and held hostage the inmates at gunpoint. They escaped after scooping Rs25,000 in cash, 10 tolas of gold and other valuables.
Two robbers snatched a four-wheeler from Dr Ziauddin on the GT Road.
SHOT DEAD: A factory worker was shot dead on Sunday by his rivals to settle an old score at Muslim village.
Abdul Jabbar was on way to his village from factory when Rizwan, Zafer and Taj Din intercepted him. After exchanging harsh words, they opened fire on Jabbar, killing him on the spot. The body was removed to the local Civil Hospital for autopsy.
BOOKED: Tetley police on Sunday booked over two dozen people on the charge of manhandling a shopkeeper and shaving off his beard and eyebrows over a business conflict.
Muhammad Asif was present in his shop when assailants came there and took him to their outhouse. They beat him with fists and kicks and also shaved off his beard and eyebrows. They also snatched a gold chain and Rs1,890 in cash.
Police have registered a case against outlaws, including Akram, Malik, Tari, Ashraf, Shaukat Ali, Akhter, Yaqoob and are investigating.
Impounded: The local district administration on Sunday impounded over 100 buses and wagons to be taken to Lahore on Tuesday for the president’s public meeting.
Reports said passengers, especially the old people, faced a great deal of difficulty when the administration got the vehicles evacuated.
