KARACHI: Encroachments removed

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 7: Encroachments and a cattle-market in Liaquatabad were removed in an anti-encroachment operation jointly carried out by Town Nazim and the police on Sunday.

12 people were arrested for resisting the drive. Two of the men claimed to be officials of the KDA and one said he was a policeman, said police sources.

A senior police official said the action was taken to remove a Bakra Mandi (cattle-market) from Liaquatabad No. 10, as they had encroached upon a portion of the road, causing traffic problems and creating threat of a major accident.

The Liaquatabad town police officer along with Town Nazim and the traffic police removed the cattle market. The sources said the people, picked up from the cattle-market, told the police that they used to give illegal gratification to some law enforcement personnel and had also the backing of a political personality.
