KARACHI: Judges alone not to blame for delay in cases

KARACHI, April 7: Justice Ali Aslam Jafri of the Sindh High Court, in his key-note address on the theme of the conference “How to Beat Delay in the Conclusion of Judicial Proceedings at all Levels”, on Sunday, said that delay in disposal of cases cannot be attributed only to the courts and judges, but in fact all individuals, institutions and agencies involved in the process are directly responsible for the same.

He was addressing the participants of a provincial judicial conference held at a local hotel.

Sometimes, courts remain vacant for months together, particularly when a judge is transferred or proceeds on some training or on long leave, Justice Ali Aslam Jafri said.

He also underscored the need for close liaison between judicial officers and officials concerned with court matters.

Justice (retd) Shafi-ur-Rahman, a senior advisor in the Government of Pakistan, also presented an overview of the Delay Reduction Programme.

Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad of the SHC underlined the need for proper training of judicial officers.

The conference was spread over four sessions, in which a number of papers were presented.

In the last session, district and sessions judges highlighted their problems, including those relating to service conditions, problems regarding trial, disposal of cases, etc.—APP
