Four-way tie in Gold Medal golf

RAWALPINDI, April 6: There was a four-way tie at the top of the professional category as Karam Hussain, Manzoor Ahmed, Mehmood Kiani and Muhammad Munir all finished with aggregate scores of 146 over two days in the Chief Executive Gold Medal Open Championship Saturday at the Rawalpindi Golf course.

Afzal Mohsin from Okara and Imdad Hussain of Railways shared the second place with 147 while Abbas Ali, Shabbir Iqbal and Iftikhar Ahmed were locked in third spot with an aggregate of 148.

Karam of PAF had the best score for the day, as he fired two under par 70 while Muhammad Munir was par 72 with Kiani two over par and Manzoor three over.

Two birdies on the first and third holes and another four on the back nine helped Karam to stay under par. He however had bogies on the second, seventh, 11th and the last hole.

PTCL’s Munir, winner of the recent President’s Gold Medal Championship in Islamabad, stayed on track firing birdies on the third and 18th holes while bogeying the sixth and 16th and scored 35 on the front and 37 as he turned back.

Lahore Gymkhana’s Manzoor Ahmed could manage just one birdie on hole No. 10 and four bogeys for a score of 36 going out and 39 on the back nine.

Islamabad golfer Kiani chipped in with four birdies but had six bogeys as he finished the day two over par after carding par 72 on the first day.

Zeeshan Ali carded a fine three under 69 in the amateur gross competition for an aggregate of 145 over two days. The Peshawar golfer, who was 76 on the first day, stroked four birdies.

A double bogey on the fourth hole left Vaqas Ahmed four strokes behind in second place with an overall score of 149, four over par 76 for the day. Taimur Hassan was third at 151.

Maj Haseeb Ahmed and Lt. Col Nasrullah Khattana shared the top spot in the amateur net category with 142 each. Kashif Khan, Zeeshan Ali and Saeemur Rehman were joint second with aggregate of 143.
