Edhi foundation to expand network

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, April 5: Edhi International Foundation is contemplating extending its network to the whole of Azad Kashmir, a spokesman for the charity has said.

He said the foundation’s chief Abdus Sattar Edhi gave importance to Azad Kashmir like other parts of the country and had recently told a group of volunteers from Muzaffarabad that their area would get its share in the philanthropic activities of the organization.

The foundation, the spokesman said, had established a control room here to provide round the clock ambulance service to the residents. The service could be availed in the municipal limits against Rs50 by making a telephone call to the control room at Raza Hospital, CMH Road, the spokesman said.

He said currently the Edhi welfare centres were functioning in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur but shortly the centres would also be set up in Bagh, Rawalakot, Bhimbher, Athmuqam and Garhi Dopatta.

TRAINING FOR BLIND: AJK Local Government and Rural Development Parliamentary Secretary Mir Ali Akbar has said that the rehabilitation of special children is the responsibility of all sections of the society.

He was speaking as chief guest at a week-long mobility training course for blind children at Neelum Special Education Centre for physically handicapped children, organized by the National Mobility Centre of federal women development, social welfare and special education ministry.

He said such training would help remove the feeling of deprivation among the blind children.
