QUETTA, April 5: Three Afghan refugees received burn injuries when a fire broke out in Dara refugee camp in Boghara area some 25km south-east of border town Chaman, official sources confirmed here on Friday.
“More than four dozen refugee tents completely burnt in the fire,” a senior official of the Chaman administration said adding that all the three injured were admitted to Chaman hospital for treatment.
Sources said an Afghan woman was cooking food during which a tent caught fire and soon it reached to some other tents due to dusty winds blowing in the region.
The people living in the camp tried to control the fire but it spread and 50 tents were completely burnt down.
The three Afghan refugees received burn injuries when they were helping the other refugees in controlling the fire.
“Refugee families living in the tents have lost their all belongings due to the fire,” an NGO working in the camp said adding that heavy rain, which lashed the Chaman and other areas of the province including Quetta, helped in saving the camp from complete destruction.
The affected Afghan families were shifted to other tents immediately.
About 200 tents were uprooted due to heavy storm in Chaman and other cities and towns of Balochistan.
