PESHAWAR, April 5: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) on Thursday restored power supply to various areas of the Frontier Region of Bannu till April 10 on the condition that the tribesmen would deposit their outstanding dues and install power meters at their residences.

The electricity supply to the areas connected with the Bakkakhel, Janikhel and Mohmandkhel feeders was disconnected on Wednesday as the Wapda authorities extended its dues recovery drive to more Frontier regions of the tribal areas.

Earlier, the Pesco had disconnected power supply to Darra Adamkhel, FR Kohat, to enforce the tribesmen to deposit power dues amounting billions of rupees outstanding against them and install power meters.

However, the Darra tribesmen protested against the continuous power suspension and damaged the high voltage line passing through the area and stopped work on the Kohat tunnel project.

Later, the issue was resolved and the power supply was restored when high-ranking government and Pesco officials, tribal leaders and Maliks agreed at a meeting held in Peshawar that the tribesmen would deposit some of the dues till April 10 and would install power meters.

the In FR Bannu, separate meetings would be held at the office of the Assistant Political Agent in Bannu between the tribesmen of Bakkakhel, Janikhel  and  Mohmandkhel  and the political administration on April 8, 9 and 10 respectively to solve the issue of stuck-up dues and power meters, says a Press release issued here on Thursday.

The meetings would be attended by prominent elders of these tribes and senior officials of political administration and Wapda.

According to the Press release, power dues amounting to Rs 95.5 million are outstanding against the consumers of Janikhel area, Rs 99.7 million against the Bakkakhel area and Rs 69.57 million against the Mohmandkhel area.
