Six card event drawn up with moderate fields

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, April 2: A six-event card consisting of moderate fields has been chalked out for the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held at the Racecourse on Wednesday.

With the advent of an early summer season in Lahore, the number of acceptors for the races has been dropped sharply because the owners of horses have started resting their animals.

All races will be run over the sprinting distance of six furlongs, the first to go under the starter’s order at 2.30 pm.

The feature event, the Khanewal Plate Class VII Division IV & V handicap race has 10 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of the lot it looks to be a match between a colt and a filly.

The two in contention is the three-year-old dark-bay colt Paddock Fancy and the three-year-old chestnut filly Value Of Life.

Paddock Fancy is the beautifully bred son of Rambo out-of- Lucky Umber, while Value Of Life is the good looking daughter of Cry For The Clown out-of-Meri Ma. Both have to their credit impressive victories on their recent outings, rated equally good.

There are a couple of other contestants, namely, Chrysler and Rukhsh, who can put up some challenge before bowing out. But both are very inconsistent in their performances. This will be the sixth and last race in the racing order.

The remaining five events look competitive, having four or more chance horses in each race.
