FAISALABAD, April 2: The second borstal in the Punjab has been completed and juvenile from various prisons of the province will be shifted there in a few days.
This was told to provincial Minister for Social Welfare Shaheen Atiqur Rehman during her visit to the newly constructed borstal.
After inspecting the jail, she said educational and computer training courses would be introduced for juveniles by the social welfare department.
Ms Shaheen said due to the disinterest in getting education, some of the children become criminals. It was every individual’s duty to provide them such an atmosphere that they could not become criminals. And the juveniles should also be helped that they could quit bad habits and become useful citizens, she added.
Borstal superintendent Saeed Ahmad Qureshi told the minister that the construction work was started in 1989 on a 52-acre piece of land and was completed in 1995 at a cost of Rs57.90 million. It was handed over to the prisons department on May 24 last.
YOUTH KILLED: A Christian youth was gunned down by his brothers-in-law over some domestic dispute in Chak 236-GB on Tuesday.
Younas Masih, had an altercation with his brothers-in-law Allah Ditta and Sarfraz Masih over some domestic dispute. They opened fire on Younas killing him on the spot.
Police have registered a case against the accused.
CONVOCATION: The 16th convocation and annual prize distribution ceremony of the Government Islamia College for Women, Eidgah Road, will be held on April 4.
Punjab University vice-chancellor Lt-Gen Arshad Mahmood (retired) will be the chief guest on the occasion.
