PO ‘escapes’ from custody

By Our Correspondent

SAHIWAL, April 1: A proclaimed offender wanted in a number of murder and dacoity cases allegedly escaped from the custody of Harappa police here on Sunday night.

CIA police had arrested PO Khalidi Masih from Jambar (Kasur) and were interrogating him for the last fortnight. He was shifted to Harappa police station where the SHO removed his handcuffs during interrogation. As the SHO was busy in a telephonic conversation, the PO disappeared from the police station.

It is suspected that the accused has allegedly been killed during the investigation. The SSP however ordered an inquiry into the incident.

SHOT DEAD: A robber was shot dead in an encounter with villagers in Kool Wala Bungalow here on Monday.

A gang of robbers was looting the commuters at a picket on the GT Road. Armed villagers rushed to the spot when a pedestrian raised an alarm. After a brief shootout, a robber sustained serious wounds while his accomplices managed to escape. The injured outlaw identified as Ali Sher was rushed to hospital where he died.

The robbers looted seven people, but they left Rs16,000 in the field.

A case has been registered against the robbers.
