HYDERABAD, April 1: A large number of girls students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Farm Colony, Tando Jam, staged a protest demonstration and a sit-in in the school premises on Monday to protest against the proposal of shifting of the school to Tando Jam Town.
They lashed out at the Tando Jam Nazim Rao Abdul Mateen who had moved a resolution in the Hyderabad District Council demanding shifting of the school from the colony to the town.
They termed the demand for shifting of the school a conspiracy to deprive the girl students of the rural area of their right to education.
KHASKHELIS: A large number of people of Khaskheli clan staged a protest demonstration and a token hunger strike outside the Tando Jam Press Club on Monday.
They were protesting against the registration of a murder case against the Khaskheli clan chief, Sardar Ghulam Mustafa Khaskheli, by Samaro police.
Speaking at the rally, Mohammad Akbar Khaskheli, councillor Gul Mohammad and others demanded that the “false” case against the Sardar should be withdrawn otherwise a series of protest demonstrations would be held throughout the province.
CONTRACT: The president of Anjuman Akhbar Faroshan, Pakistan, Syed Afzal Ahmed Shah, has appealed to Wapda chairman Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan to extend the contract of 54 temporary employees of the Lakhra Power House or regularize their services.
He was talking to a 54-member delegation of the contract employees of the power house which called on him at the MQM zonal office here on Monday.
The delegation told Mr Shah that they had been employed in 1996 on the contract basis but their services were now being terminated.
They said it was despite the fact that 1,200 employees of the power generation plants had been granted extension in their contract.
Mr Shah offered support to the contract employees and appealed to the chairman, Wapda, to extend their contract or regularize their services.
