SPI records increase

ISLAMABAD, April 1: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on March 28, has registered an increase of 0.45 per cent over previous week.

The SPI registered a growth of 6.03 per cent when compared to the corresponding week ended on March 29 last year.

Whereas SPI of the same week for combined income group recorded an increase of 0.43 per cent over previous week with a rise of 5.11 per cent over last year, according to Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) figures released here on Monday.

the data with revised base 2000-01 covering 17 urban centres for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000 and combined income group and basket consisting of 51 essential kitchen items including four items of utilities.

During the week under review, the average prices of 11 items decreased, 8 items registered increase, while the prices of 32 items remained unchanged.

The items which registered decrease included — garlic, eggs, gram pulse, potatoes, mustard oil, chicken farm, masoor pulse, mash pulse, rice basmti (broken), bananas and veg.ghee (loose).

While prices of onions, tomatoes, lawn, kerosene, moong pulse, rice (irri-6), mutton and firewood registered increase.
