ISLAMABAD, March 31: Mohammad Tariq, helped by seven birdies, carded three-under par 69 to take share of lead with Mohammad Munir at four-under 140 after 54 holes in the President of Pakistan Gold Medal Golf Championship at the Islamabad Club course Sunday.
Overnight leader Munir had a second round of two-under 70.
Tariq lost strokes on seventh, ninth and 10th but regained his form as he went on a birdie blitz from the 15th.
Seasoned Imdad Hussain played a round of par 72 to finish three strokes behind the leaders at one under par 143. Imdad was fortunate as he scored back-to-back birdies on the last two holes.
Matloob Hussain was another strokes behind at even.
Vaqas Ahmad, who had an eagle on the 18th, was emerging as favourite to win the amateur gross title. He had a score of 148.
In the net category, however, Shahid Javed closely followed Vaqas with a score of 148. Brig.Tariq with 150 was in third place.
Hyte Schirmir carded 72 to lead the ladies net event. One stroke behind her was Sahra Mahmood (73) while Shaheen Masood and Ranee (77 each) were joint third.
In the boys category, Hamza Ali headed the field with 64 while Safdar Awan, who posted 70, led the net competition for seniors.
