LAHORE, March 31: The recently appointed Pakistan hockey manager Zafar Ali Khan Sunday expressed his disagreement with coach Tahir Zaman on the long-term contract dispute.

“I think team management’s performance should be analyzed on event-to-event basis. The three forthcoming events this year are enough to test the capability of the new management” the official told Dawn Sunday.

Former captain, Tahir Zaman, who has replaced Olympian Hanif Khan as the coach Saturday, had demanded that he should have been appointed for a longer period, ideally till the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The manager hinted that no major changes in the team would take place for this year’s events, Commonwealth Games, Champions Trophy and Asian Games

“In my personnel view, since fresh blood is not available we cannot have changes in the present lot,” he said.

The manager, who was hopeful of team’s standing on the victory stand at the Asian Games this year, said: “I have eyes on the Commonwealth Games and Champions Trophy, but I am hopeful for a gold medal at the Asian Games”, he said.

He said although the team that finished fifth in Kuala Lumpur World Cup could win any tournament, it was psychologically and physically weak. He added that a trained and experienced physiotherapist was on of the basic requirements of the team.

According to the manager, national training camp for the Commonwealth Games would be held most probably at Lahore from April 20. The Games are being held at Manchester in July.
