By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, March 31: Imambargah Bhatianwala Caretaker Arif Husain Bhatti and his son Ali Muntaza Mechoi, shot dead by two motorcyclists on Saturday night, were laid to rest in the plot of Hujjatul Asr, Shams Colony on Sunday.

Hundreds of people from various parts of the district attended the funeral prayers in Karbala courtyard, Block B, Model Town after Zohar.

Condemning the sectarian killing, several shia community leaders urged the government to bring the culprits to book without delay.

However, they took their decision back to go on demonstration after reaching an agreement with the local administration.

Till late Saturday, the bereaved family did not allow the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) staff to conduct postmortem. On their nod, the examination was conducted which revealed Mr Bhatti was not given proper treatment at the crucial time.

The Civil Lines police have registered an FIR against the two unidentified motorcyclists under section 302 PPC.

When contacted, a police official told Dawn that they would tighten noose on the culprits. The police were in hunt to round up some of the suspects, it was learnt.

The soyem of the two will be held on Tuesday (tomorrow).

KILLED: Two persons were killed while 35 others sustained injuries in a chain collision among a trawler, coach and a truck near Janowala, Ahmadpur East Road, some 35km from here, on Sunday.

Reports said the trawler while overtaking another vehicle collided head-on with the coach coming from Rahim Yar Khan to Bahawalpur. The truck that was following the coach rammed into it.

Sohail of Liaquatpur and Abdul Qadir of Ahmadpur East died on the spot while 35 others sustained injuries. The injured were taken to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where the condition of 20 was stated to be critical.

The Musafir Khan police arrested the trawler driver.

SHOT DEAD: Seraiki singer Jamil Parvana’s son Muzamil Jamil on Sunday shot dead his sister in Model Town over an altercation.

The mother of the two had married one Asif Shah after divorce from Parwana. They were living with their mother in Model Town A.

Following an altercation with sister, Jamil administered sleeping pills to his mother and shot dead his sister. The Cantonment police have registered the case against Jamil who is at large.
