HYDERABAD: Widow appeals for protection

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, March 31: A widow of Tando Wali Mohammad, Hyderabad, Meharun Nissa, has accused Maqbool Ahmed Memon and his brother, Ashfaq Ahmed Memon, of harassment and appealed to the authorities for justice and protection.

Speaking at a news conference, along with her son, Qamaruddin Memon, and nephew, Zulfiqar Khokhar, at the press club here on Saturday, Ms Nissa said that she had leased out 71 acres of agricultural land in Burkerai deh, Tando Allahyar taluka, to Maqbool Memon for five years after the death of her husband, Shamsuddin Memon.

She said that it was with great difficulty that she had taken over the possession of the land on the expiry of the lease period.

She, however, alleged that Maqbool Memon, who is an employee in the Sui Southern Gas Company and brother of a senior bureaucrat, Ashfaq Memon, was issuing threats of dire consequences to her and her sons if the land was not vacated.

She said that at the insistence of the two brothers, she and her sons were being harassed by the local police.

She alleged that the kamdar of Maqbool Memon was Patharidar and his Autaq was frequented by criminals.
