Fanim fancied

LAHORE, March 30: A card of six events, featuring the Ghazali Cup, will be gone through during the 24th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse Sunday.

The Ghazali Cup will be a class IV & V combined handicap race and will be run over the sprinting distance of six furlongs. On their recent performances, the following four out of a field of eleven contestants will be tough contenders for the event:

Fanim, Gambling Girl, Great Grandy and One Man Show.

Fanim is a six-year-old bay mare from Fan Tan-out-of-Imative and has a slight edge over rest of the field. She is a fast sprinter besides also being well-placed in handicap. Fanim is also a record holder, having registered the fastest timings in the five and seven furlongs races.

Main rivals of Fanim are expected to be four-year-old bay filly Gambling Girl, eight-year-old bay horse Great Grandy and bay gelding One Man Show. They could be fighting for lesser remunerative positions.

The supporting event, Shah Kot Plate, a class VII division I & II combined race will have eleven competitors, barring last-minute withdrawals. In this race, the red-roan mare Dilnasheen II looks a good proposition and a faster animal than the others. She can win if ‘sent on job’.
