ISLAMABAD, March 28: Civil Judge Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah has issued arrest warrants against TV and fil artist Zeba Bakhtyar, her father and former attorney-general Yahiya Bakhtyar, and mother Eva Bakhtyar, in a defamation suit filed by former diplomat Arshad Sami Khan.

The complainant, in his suit, had claimed that the three respondents levelled baseless allegations against him and his family and brought them into disrepute.

The court had issued several notices to the respondents, but they failed to comply with the same, which prompted issuance of arrest warrants against them.

Saudi woman indicted: The civil judge, Islamabad, Syed Muzaffar Ali Shah on Thursday indicted a Saudi woman for illegally entering the country without valid documents.

The capital police had arrested Ms Nauf, mother of a five-month-old baby girl, and her husband at F-7 Markaz on January 17. The woman had fled to Pakistan after marrying the Afghan national, Bakht Mohammad.

The woman told the court that she did not want to return to her native country and desired to live with her husband only. To a query, she said their passports were left with their relatives in Afghanistan.

It may be noted that there is no extradition treaty between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, however, under the law, any matter of the kind can be handled accordingly with the mutual consent.

The couple, talking to this scribe after the hearing, said since the Saudi laws did allow local women to marry foreigners, they decided to leave the country and settle in Afghanistan after marrying secretly.

They said they had left Afghan city of Gardez some years ago due to famine and lawlessness, and were residing in Pakistan eversince.

They claimed that they neither had any association with any terrorist group, including Al Qaeda, nor remained involved in any unlawful activity.
