PESHAWAR, March 28: The performance of educational boards of the NWFP was reviewed here at a meeting on Thursday, with Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah in the chair.

It decided that from now on, all the boards should be made responsible for the registration as well as monitoring and supervision of school-level private educational institutions’ working that come under their respective domains.

Besides, the boards should also ensure the effective utilization of their resources particularly with regard to the funds meant for developmental activities. At the same time, they should also continue their efforts to further streamline the examination system.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said, the boards must evolve a system of proper check and balance in their functioning and follow the given rules in letter and spirit. Any undertaking, involving finances, should be got approved from the proper forum, he said.

The secondary boards have got to perform multi-pronged services and their responsibilities demand full concentration. In this respect, he said, transparency in dealing should be given top priority.

He also directed them to further streamline their sports activities and come out with a solid plan of action in this connection.

The meeting, besides all the chairmen of the boards, was also attended by Education Minister Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, Secretary Education Mrs Rashida Malik and Secretary Finance Mr Wajid Rana.

Meanwhile, the NWFP government has decided to revamp, reactivate and reorganize the NWFP Health Foundation with a view to further expanding its role and scope of work so that people are provided better health care.

Decision to this effect was made by its Board of Directors which met here at the Governor’s House.

The meeting decided to develop this institution as a corporate body on the pattern of provincial Education Foundation.

The meeting also decided to chalk out a policy to offer non-functional BHUs to the private sector for their better utilization and to entrust the responsibility of ensuring their regular and proper functioning to the foundation.

The NWFP governor said the foundation must be very much clear about its functions and objectives and there should be clear directions towards its future plan of action. The revised charter of the foundation should also carry concrete proposals to offer scholarships to the deserving students studying in different medical institutions.
