SUKKUR, March 28: The Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, upheld the decision of the session judge, Shikarpur, who had awarded life imprisonment and Rs100,000 fine to a convict of double murder over Karo-kari, here on Thursday.

Justice Ghulam Nabi Soomro of the SHC in his remarks said the verdict of the Shikarpur judge could not be curtailed as there was no legal flaw in it.

Bashir Ahmed had killed his wife, Rashida, and her alleged paramour, Sher Mohammad, in 1993 and later adopted a plea that he had killed them in a fit of rage and an emotional condition for the sake of honour.

Justice Ghulam Nabi decided that it was a double murder case and not a matter of emotional feelings.

Upholding the decision of the session judge, Shikarpur, the SHC judge said that the former had awarded a lenient punishment.

INJURED: Two men were injured in an armed clash among some members of Ramejo and Kori communities in Bagarji, some 20km away from here on Thursday, over a matrimonial dispute.

Fifty-year old Sohrab Kori had married a 15-year old girl of Ramejo clan.

The Ramejos were against this marriage and were insisting on the return of the girl.

The dispute led to the Thursday’s clash in which Ejaz Ramejo and Aziz Ramejo were injured and later shifted to the Sukkur Civil Hospital.

This was said by the vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Mazharul Haque Siddiqui, while speaking as chief guest at a seminar on the significance of faculty training and development organized by the IBA Sukkur, here on Thursday.

The DCO, Sukkur, Nisar Ahmed Siddiqi, said that professional growth of teachers was necessary and we had to create an environment where teachers could grow in their professional skills.

The director, IBA, Sukkur, Prof Shah Mohammad Luhrani, stressed the need of merit and said that teachers and books, not guns and bullets, could lead a nation on the path of development.

EYE CAMP: Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Sukkur, organized a free eye camp in village Jafarabad, taluka Sukkur on Thursday.

More than 400 patients of several eye ailments were diagnozed by eye specialists with the provision of treatment to them.

Meanwhile, Sukkur District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah inaugurated a drainage scheme during his visit to village Jafarabad.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the district government was trying its best to provide basic facilities to the people without any discrimination.
