KARACHI: Gutters overflow in Guru Mandir area

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 27: Filthy water gushing out of choked gutters has become a permanent nuisance on Babul and Gul Mohar streets in Guru Mandir near the Edhi Centre.

Residents complained that the two streets had been in a dilapidated condition for the past couple of years and filthy water coming out of the wornout sewerage system of their locality often accumulated on them, causing further damage to both the streets, besides creating a stinking atmosphere in the locality.

Referring to other problems being confronted by them since long, they deplored that a nearby marriage hall, situated on a residential plot, had become a permanent nuisance to them as the management of the hall had no control over the fast music which kept on blaring till late in the night and those attending wedding ceremonies off and on indulged in indiscriminate aerial firing, causing scare in their locality.

They also complained that drivers of oil tankers had made a habit to park their vehicles on the streets and an illegal rickshaw stand had also sprung up on Babul street, causing hurdles to the flow of traffic.

They said all their complaints made to the civic agency concerned and police had, so far, fallen on deaf ears. They demanded of the city Nazim to ask the officials concerned to repair the streets, remove the faults responsible for recurring gutter overflows and not to allow rickshaw stand and illegal parking of oil tankers on the streets in residential areas.
