ISLAMABAD, March 24: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson, Benazir Bhutto, has urged the people to rise above sectarianism and forge unity among their ranks.

She also urged them to dissociate from all those elements who were fanning sectarianism and anarchy.

In her message on Youm-i-Ashura, she said Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) sacrificed his life and that of his family members and faithful followers for the cause of truth and justice.

“The supreme sacrifice of the Imam teaches us that tyranny, oppression and falsehood must be resisted no matter what the odds.

“On this day apart from paying homage to the great martyrs of Karbala we must also pause and reflect on the lessons this supre-me sacrifice carries for all of us. Today the need for learning a lesson from the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain is even greater because tyranny and oppression continue, she said.
