Yaum-i-Ashur being observed today

Published March 25, 2002

ISLAMABAD, March 24: Youm-i-Ashur will be observed throughout the country on Monday with great religious reverence and solemnity in commemoration of the supreme sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) for the supremacy of Islam.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques and Imambargahs.

Processions of alam and zuljinnah, taken out from Imambargahs all over the country, will terminate after marching through their traditional routes.

The faithful will set up sabeels where water and juices will be offered to the participants of the processions all along their routes. The hospitals have provided ambulances to go along the processions.

Ulema and Zakerin will deliver speeches highlighting the significance of the day when Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), and his companions laid their lives for the cause of Islam and set up a glaring example for the followers not to stoop before the tyrants.

Majlis-i-Sham-i-Ghariban will be the major event to mark the day where nohas and marsias will be presented as tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.—APP
