Security heightened in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, March 23: The district government and police authorities heightened security to ward off any untoward incident on the occasion of Ashura Muharram.

Army has been called out besides heavy deployment of police and Elite Force at imambargahs and mosques to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim, the district coordination officer and the SSP visited on Saturday sensitive places to review security arrangements.

Cook strangled: A cook was strangled by unidentified people in the Kashmir Colony, Rahwali, on Saturday.

Abdul Hamid, a father of three children, was sleeping in his house alone as his wife had gone to see her parent. She found her husband dead on her return.

There were strangulation marks around his neck.

Motive behind the murder and identity of the accused could not be ascertained.

CASH LOOTED: A commission agent of new vegetable market was deprived of cash and other valuables by his salesman here on Saturday.

Tariq Butt went to his house in the evening when his salesman Zulfiqar with the help of Younas and Abbas broke open the safe and took away Rs300,000 in cash and other valuables.
